Family Law
Family law applies to any family relationships, whether you are married, common-law, or you have never lived with the parent of your child. It also applies whether or not you have children. There are several main laws that apply to families in Ontario.
These laws set out the law for issues you will come across in your family matter such as custody, access, child support, spousal support, as well as division of property, divorce and adoption. Another important thing to know is that Canadian courts follow previous decisions (precedents) from other Canadian courts, especially the higher courts. This is called case law. Part of what your lawyer will do is to find out how the above legislation and case law will apply to your case.
The Child and Family Services Act (CFSA) also contains all of the regulations about the Child Protection in Ontario. In regards to CFSA proceedings we deal with various issues specifically Apprehension, Supervision Orders, Society Wardship, Kinship Placement, Crown Wardship or negotiation of a Voluntary Services Agreement
